SOL

Sol, which means Sun in Latin, serve as a representative of our customers. We are a boutique that cater apparels and gowns for special occasions and formal events. To us, all our customers have the majestic aura that the sun posses and radiates of. As much as the sun is important to all living things, we want to make sure that our customers are able to receive the same valued attention and priority from our brand.

Vision: Empowering women with a strong statement of confidence, charisma and sophistication.

Mission: We aim to provide apparels that would give a finishing touch to our customers' demeanour. With entirely handmade and exclusive apparels, we promise to pamper them with delicate stitchery to achieve utmost beauty.

The 4th Dimension

A collection magnifying the value of time in the faraway space, right in the center of any blackhole.
Diving into these dense objects in space, matter revolving the blackhole all face the
effect of slowed and eventually frozen, time.

Everything stops.

The 4th dimension,
Time
captures this frozen state of the
overwhelming power, beauty and movement
that only occurs in the unreachable space-time,
and subsequently bringing this physically unattainable sophistication
  into reality
in the form of apparels.

FYP period lasted from October 2014 till April 2015. Before FYP period was our internship, but I had started the conceptualization of my collection since internship period and had gone back school for several consultations as well for advice and further improvements.

For the whole 6months, from building a brand, to conceptualization of design concept, to production and finally execution, it has both been tiring yet fruitful. We had learnt a lot of things about starting a brand; how to survive in the industry as a new start-up brand; how to sell your collection by making it attractive to customers, etc.

I had to admit, this whole process was very tiring for me as a student and fashion designer in the making, both physically and mentally. there were a lot of struggles to cope with the very tight deadlines, especially when my collection requires a lot of time and patience with draping and beadwork.

Oh Shu Wen

(just if you're wondering, only 4 garments and not all 5,were on the runway because that was decided by the school.. so that can't be helped)

Finally it was the big day: the runway show day! It wasn't entirely perfect though, from what I wanted, but I believe it is still the best I could do. Initially I had wanted to produce hair accessories to match the garments but because the makeup&hair are done in groups of 6students, we had to come to a common makeup&hair for everybody, which concluded to be the clean ponytail. Thus, because of the nature of the hairstyle, I decided to just make it clean and not add on unnecessary head gears.

Overall the runway show was a very special experience as it was our very first runway show with our own garments. However, I do have one regret which was about my final garment. Right before the show started my model had told me the thigh area was a little tight and might be uncomfortable to walk in. Hence, upon cutting a slit on the spot right before the show for better movement for her, I had been worrying about having the cut being seen on the runway till I had forgotten to check the train of the same garment before the show.

It was only until my model went out to the stage and I had seen from the TV (which was filming the show at the front) that a portion on the right of the train had broke off. It had been fine during the afternoon rehearsal so most likely it happened right before the show. It was saddening to see as I had spent some time trying to perfect the design of the train. However, since mistakes like this can't be undone now that the show is over, I guess I would take this as a lesson learnt for the future shows I may have.

I would like to thank the producers, crews of the show, makeup & hair stylists, and of course the 4 lovely models for the beautiful show. The show wouldn't have been possible if not for all of you!

Apologies for the bad lighting!

Last but not least!
I would like to give a BIG THANKS to all our awesome lecturers who guided us for the whole 3years in Temasek Polytechnic Design School! Thank you for going through the tough 3years with us; or rather being with us and guiding us through every step we take.

Special thanks to Jay Quek for teaching us sewing foundations! He has been a GREAT help in building my sewing foundation and although he left the school during our second year, I am still sooooo grateful to him for the short 1year+ with us!

Another BIG special thanks to KyungMi!! Our lecturer for the whole of FYP. She had been a really really biggggg help in making my collection possible. Thank you for all the time and dedication to helping and guiding us. And I'm sorry if there were times we bothered you too much.. But you still gave your all to help us! I don't know how to thank you enough XOXO SARANGHAE!

(Second photoshoot)

Vertigo Lapse

The 2nd photoshoot for The 4th Dimension is up!
Vertigo Lapse
is a photoshoot with the concept inspired from light trails
relating to the original concept of time in the collection.
Capturing the light movements in a single picture
This is exactly the same idea of The 4th Dimension,
capturing the frozen state of the dramatic blackhole movements!

It was a great experience shooting with Richard! I learnt a lot and experienced a lot with his guidance during the shoot. Althought the shooting hours were really long (we ended at midnight), but it was worth it!

Thank you everybody! :D
